Extract icons from exe or dll files. Using IcoFX you can extract icons from exe files and save them as separate icon files. To extract icons from exe or dll files follow these steps: 1. Open the exe or dll file using the 'File/Extract.' The Extract dialog will appear showing all the icons that the file contains. How is an icon stored inside an executable? Ask Question 2. I am not able to find any information on this. There are tools that exist to extract icons from.exe files, but my question is how are they stored in the first place? Windows icons. Think you'd have to do some intense scripting to spot nested folders like that. Running the script multiple times would work it's way up the tree with each run (if you have 7 nested empty folders then it'd take 7 runs to fully clean it up). So I had to do some editing, and then I realized what was happening. It looks like what it's going to do is create a folder, and then search that folder for exe's but if the folder already exists it will search that folder recursively and then spit out the.ico files in the root of the search directory.I had to edit it slightly to allow for a source directory and a separate extraction directory, incase I don't want it to save all the.ico files in the root of the source directory. I also added a switch incase I don't want to search a directory recursively. Also, when I code I code I like to use the full cmdlet instead of it's alias as to not to confuse anyone if I post it online.
(also not to confuse my self if I end up archiving it off and not using it for a long time)Here is what I ended up with. Chamele0n wrote:So I had to do some editing, and then I realized what was happening.
